Biking

While we were in Vermont, Jeffrey and I rented bikes and went on a ride around Lake Champlain. It was the first time I had been on a bike since 1996 when I broke my foot riding a bike. And ohmigosh, I will never go that long without riding one again! I forgot how fun it is. And it was funny to actually live the saying that it's just like riding a bike. Thank goodness for procedural memory!

I am hoping that our next bike trip will be the Minuteman Bikeway. Then who knows where will will be biking to!

Tree Hugger

Because I love the earth, when we left for our week-long trip, I unplugged everything to save energy. This included the tv and my tivo. Which means that I'm missing all of my shows this week (except for House. I got to see House!). This isn't actually a big problem because most networks let you watch shows online now. But not the CW! And Canadians don't seem to care who will be America's next top model! Sigh.

Vacation all I ever wanted

Moria comes in tonight and leaves Sunday. Jeffrey and I leave Sunday for our vacation. It feels good. Also, I've been checking out my foliage websites pretty much non-stop and weather.com's foliage map shows the places we are going as near peak or peak, so it should be beautiful. I am very excited.

Thanks to universalhub.com and BostonNOW for letting the people of Boston know about the turkeys and the video. Between this and customer of the week at Starbucks, it was cool to have my 15 minutes.

Wild Turkey Extravaganza

The past week at work has been pretty exciting thanks to the wild turkeys that have descended upon Brookline. Last week, a student was chased by a turkey down the street and up our walkway and tried to attack her. Laura and I were lucky enough to witness it on the video monitor in our office. After calling animal control and the police, a nice police officer came by, blew his whistle and swatted at the turkey with his police stick and the turkey ran away.

Today was just as exciting. I glanced at the video monitor and noticed last week's turkey sitting on our walkway. Taking a note from the policeman, we decided to see if we could scare it away with pots and pans. Check out the videos to see what happened.

Blame Canada - v2

Now in addition to the Canadian dollar debacle, it seems our foliage spotting might be in danger too! I went to my favorite fall website, www.foliagenetwork.com, to check the most recent foliage report, only to find that these stupid hot days we've been having "seem to be delaying the onset of fall color." And it is only going to get warmer the next few days!

Currently the areas we are going to are reporting low color. Hopefully the cool weather will come by the end of this week and maybe the week after that the foliage will at least get to moderate color, if not high! But sadly, I'm not expecting peak color even though you can usually expect it at the time we will be there.
